1. Not financial advice
Excelergy provides general information about UK pension rules, taxation, ISAs, and retirement planning concepts through its calculator, FAQ, and blog. Everything on this site is educational. Nothing is personalised financial advice.
Excelergy does not:
- assess your personal financial circumstances
- recommend specific products, providers, or strategies for you
- act as a regulated financial adviser
If you need advice on a decision that affects your own pension, ISA, retirement plan, or tax position, speak to an adviser regulated by the FCA. You can find one through services like Unbiased or VouchedFor.
2. How the planner works
The Excelergy retirement planner is a deterministic year-by-year simulation. You enter assumptions about your age, pension and ISA balances, contributions, growth rates, and target retirement income. The planner projects how those numbers evolve under standard UK pension and tax rules.
Important properties of the model:
- It uses single growth rates, not variable returns. It does not model sequence-of-returns risk, market volatility, or Monte Carlo outcomes.
- It uses 2026/27 UK tax bands (with optional Scottish bands toggle). National Insurance, Personal Allowance, the Lump Sum Allowance (£268,275), and the State Pension figure are set to currently published values.
- It is only as accurate as your inputs. Growth rates, charges, contributions, and future salary or spending are estimates. Real outcomes will differ.
What's deliberately not modelled (to keep the tool understandable):
- Tapered annual allowance for high earners
- Money Purchase Annual Allowance (MPAA) after flexible drawdown
- Defined benefit (final salary) pensions
- General Investment Account capital gains tax
- Property income, rental yields, business income
- Annuities and hybrid annuity / drawdown products
- Inheritance tax planning beyond the basic ISA / pension wrapper position
- Variable returns and sequence-of-returns risk
If any of these dominate your plan, the planner's output won't reflect your situation - speak to an adviser.
3. The blog
Blog posts explain UK pension and retirement concepts in plain English. They are educational reference material. They are not recommendations to take or avoid specific actions, do not assess your individual situation, and are not guaranteed to remain accurate as rules change.
Tax rules and pension regulations change. Posts state the rules as of the time of writing; future legislation may alter them. Notable upcoming changes (for example, pension IHT treatment from 6 April 2027) are flagged in the relevant posts.
4. Provider listings
The planner and FAQ list UK financial platforms (SIPP and ISA providers) for reference. These listings are not endorsements or personalised recommendations. They do not consider your situation. Compare any provider against your own needs and consult a regulated adviser before opening an account.
At time of writing, Excelergy has no commercial relationship with any provider listed. If that changes (for example, an affiliate arrangement), it will be clearly disclosed on the relevant pages and on this legal notice.
5. Your data
Excelergy runs entirely client-side. All scenario data, settings, and report history are stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is shared with third parties. If you clear your browser data, switch browsers, or use a different device, your scenarios won't be there - use the Export button on the planner to back them up.
See the FAQ entry on data storage for the full explanation, including what happens when you switch devices and how to back up or wipe your scenarios.
6. External links
The site links to external websites (HMRC, gov.uk, financial provider websites, regulatory bodies, advice-finding services). Excelergy is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of any external site.
